Last month, various experts challenged the efficacy of the Inland rail project, with Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) head John Fullerton and the Grattan Institute’s Marion Terrill believing the project probably won’t deliver a commercial return.
One of the major problems cited with this project is that intermodal transfers to/from trucks before/after the freight reaches the port means that freight would be double handled, severely undermining the efficiency of rail over longer distances.
