A much needed reprieve in long-term migrant arrivals

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has released visitor arrivals and departures data for the month of December, which registered a welcome fall in net annual permanent and long-term arrivals.

In the year to December 2017, there were 778,220 permanent and long-term arrivals into Australia – up 7% from December 2016. This was partly offset by 517,650 permanent and long-term departures from Australia:
