The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has released dwelling approvals data for the month of December. At the national level, the number of dwelling approvals fell by a seasonally adjusted 20.0% to 16,891. The overall fall was driven by the unit & apartment market (-39.2%), whereas house approvals rose by 1.0%.
In the year to December 2017, dwelling approvals fell by a seasonally-adjusted 5.5%, with unit approvals down by 18.4% whereas detached house approvals rose by 5.5%:
