Do-nothing Malcolm hides from “still dual nationals in the parliament”

Do-nothing Malcolm will do nothing on the citizenship debacle:

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull says MPs and senators are personally responsible for ensuring they are not dual citizens, ruling out a parliamentary wide audit to stop any more politicians being booted out on constitutional grounds.

Mr Turnbull also rebuked former Senate president Stephen Parry for keeping secret that he was a potential dual citizen until after the High Court’s landmark ruling last week.

“I’m disappointed that Senator Parry didn’t make public this issue some time ago. Quite some time ago,” he told reporters during his visit to Israel.

“I learnt about it probably the same time you did on Tuesday. He chose to delay his reporting of it. He should have reported it much earlier and it could have been referred to the High Court with the other matters that were dealt with.”

Talk about making yourself hostage to fortune. One more outing and he’ll look like a complete goose.

How many other MPs with dual nationality are still refusing to tell the truth — that they shouldn’t, by law, be in parliament?

How shameful that the Liberals and Labor feel none even need to prove their right to make our laws.

Why won’t Labor frontbencher Penny Wong show us proof that she did renounce her citizenship of Malaysia, where she spent the first eight years of her life?

“Why won’t Julia Banks, the Liberal holder of a crucial marginal seat, prove she has renounced the Greek citizenship she inherited through her father?

Why won’t Labor’s deputy leader, Tanya Plibersek, prove she’s not a dual citizen through her Slovenian parents?

Why won’t the Liberals’ Tony Pasin and Labor’s Calabrian-born Tony Zappia prove they aren’t Italian?

Why won’t Labor’s Susan Lamb prove she isn’t also British through her father, and Labor’s Maria Vamvakinou, proudly Greek, prove she’s renounced Greek citizenship?

And — most damning — why do Labor and the Liberals still refuse to hold an audit to check the papers of every single MP to prove they are entitled to be there?

Why? Because our lawmakers prefer to connive at fraud out of sheer self-interest. What an example to the nation. What a lesson to the children.

The Greens are surely right to say there must still be dual nationals in parliament, and so is Nationals leader Barnaby Joyce.

Labor has a vetting process but the Coalition does not. It still seems more likely that the government is hiding more.

Meanwhile, on a side note, via The Australian:

Broadcaster Alan Jones has lent his support to One Nation at the Queensland election in a video message to voters.

After launching a series of visceral attacks on premier Campbell Newman ahead of his 2015 election defeat, Jones has entered the state campaign, accusing the major parties of bowing to donors.

The Sydney-based broadcaster has been a long-time opponent of the proposed expansion of the Acland coalmine, on the Darling Downs, and more recently of Adani’s, in central Queensland.

In the video message to be broadcast online, Jones warns that voters should be sceptical about political donations going to the major parties and praises One ­Nation state leader Steve Dickson.

“Queenslanders should be very concerned about where the big money is going in this election campaign and what it’s going to buy, what favours it’s going to buy,’’ says Jones, who was filmed wearing a T-shirt emblazoned with the words “I’m sticking with Steve Dickson’’.

“They will be pumping it into both major parties.

“The battler will be run over and forgotten by the big money men and that’s why serious consideration must be given to One Nation supporting the battler.

“Steve Dickson’s doing a terrific job fighting for those people and that’s why, as I said, I think he is a serious candidate in this election campaign.’’

ON is a vociferous supporter of Adani so that doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. Still, it’s noteworthy given Jones’ pull in NSW.
