ABS: Real Australian rents have not grown for nearly 6 years!

The June quarter consumer price index (CPI) data, released yesterday by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), revealed continued weak rental growth at the national capital city level.

According to the ABS, rents nationally grew by just 0.2% over the September quarter of 2016 and by only 0.5% over the year – the lowest annual growth rate since December 1994 (see below charts).
