Paulinephobia. The fear of association with Pauline Hanson. Those suffering from it include:
- Ross Gittins, who used regularly question the economic benefits of the population ponzi but never mentions it today;
- for that matter, the entire Fairfax crew who would rather virtue signal in support of Domain than they would discuss the merits of immigration;
- The Guardian Australia which never mentions immigration as responsible for anything other than Nirvana;
- the Grattan Institute which has terrific research but can’t seem to bring itself to discuss immigration even on issues like housing affordability;
- The Greens who rejigged their anti-population growth policy to fight One Nation in the late nineties despite it destroying the environment;
- The Labor Party which is pro-immigration because it supports sectional union interests;
- The Lorax, MB’s own Byron Bay wowser who pretends to Green views but is too precious to get his hands dirty on actually fighting for them.
All of you have developed Paulinephobia, the fear of association with One Nation policies no matter the truth. All of you.
Pauline Hanson is nothing more than a tuck shop racist writ large and you’ve all turned her into some kind of all-consuming devil that denudes one half of your brain.
For the record let me say that I disagree vehemently with just about everything Pauline says. But I’m not going to abandon the important policy debates just because she’s invited herself along. That is to leave her running unchecked across vast swathes of policy.
You may have noticed that the above list constitutes pretty much the entire institution of the Australian Left. That’s the irony. Mass immigration has evolved into a raging class war against working people and youth via falling wages, rising house prices and debased infrastructure. Yet those who claim to champion those most vulnerable in society are now the most responsible for their disenfranchisement, for fear of being labeled “racist” by their own kind.
Pauline is not immigration and immigration is not Pauline. The economics of immigration are an entirely separate question from fringe racism.
Get over yourselves wowsers. There’s no war but the class war.
