If you want a text book example of what is wrong with Australia’s mainstream media, check out the above video from 7 News Melbourne, which ‘examined’ the 500,000 increase in Melbourne’s vehicle registrations as reported in the latest Census, as well as the worsening traffic congestion, but drew entirely the wrong conclusion:
“The reason for Melbourne’s increasingly gridlocked roads has been revealed. Car numbers are growing even faster than our population. Half a million were added in the past five years alone. And in some suburbs, it’s not unusual for households to have four vehicles”…
“Every day feels like a traffic jam. Census data reveals that in just five years, and extra 500,000 vehicles have hit Victorian roads. And what’s fueling that is an explosion in households with four or more vehicles”…
Righto, so it’s the explosion in households with four more cars, hey? Not the fact that Victoria’s population exploded by 651,140 people in the past five years, and Melbourne’s by 555,950 – faster than the growth in vehicle registrations?

And let’s not mention the primary driver behind Melbourne’s current and future projected population growth: the federal government’s mass immigration program:

Nah, let’s just blame those wasteful outer suburban households with four or more cars, while also ignoring the fact that the primary reason why there has been an increase in four-car households is because many young adults are being forced to live at home longer because of the extortionate cost of Melbourne housing, driven in part by mass immigration.
