March quarter trade surplus surges to $9 billion

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) today released trade data for the month of March, with Australia’s trade surplus falling to $3,107 million from $3,657 million (revised) in February.

In seasonally adjusted terms, exports rose by $776 million (2%) to $33,343 million in March, whereas imports rose by $1,325 million (5%) to $30,235 million driven by consumption goods (up $751 million or 10%) and intermediate and other merchandise goods (up $715 million or 8%).
