Long-term arrivals into Australia surge

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has released visitor arrivals and departures data for the month of March, which registered a big jump in annual net permanent and long-term arrivals, which remains at turbo-charged levels.

In the year to March 2017, there were 731,320 permanent and long-term arrivals into Australia – up 7% from March 2016 but down from the record 792,500 arrivals set in the year to January 2013 – partly offset by 449,800 permanent and long-term departures from Australia (see next chart).
