Both Coalition and Labor miss the point on university

Labor and The Greens have signaled that they will oppose the Turnbull Government’s 7.5% fee hike and reduction in the HECS repayment threshold (to $42,000 from $51,957 currently), thus forcing the Coalition to negotiate with the 12-member cross-bench. From The Canberra Times:

Labor will use the higher education changes, which would see student fees increase by 7.5 per cent by 2021, to argue against the government’s claims that “fairness” is one of the budget’s key themes…
