PPI confirms minimal inflationary pressures

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) today released Producer Price Index (PPI) data for the December quarter, which registered a 0.5% quarterly rise in final (stage 3) prices and an increase of only 0.7% over the year:

The 0.5% rise in final (stage 3) prices was driven primarily by rises in the prices received for Building construction (+0.7%), Petroleum refining and petroleum fuel manufacturing (+12.5%) and Accommodation (+5.3%), partly offset by falls in the prices received for Electronic equipment manufacturing (-1.5%), Professional and scientific equipment manufacturing (-2.1%) and Other machinery and equipment manufacturing (-1.8%).
