Immigration hovers near 9-year lows

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has released visitor arrivals and departures data for the month of November, which registered a small rise in annual immigration.
In the year to November 2016, there were 711,110 permanent and long-term arrivals into Australia – up 5% from October 2015 but well down from the record 792,500 arrivals set in the year to January 2013 – partly offset by 443,910 permanent and long-term departures from Australia (see next chart).
