ABS: Rental growth lowest in 22-years

The December quarter consumer price index (CPI) data, released today by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), revealed a continued moderation of rental growth at the national capital city level.

According to the ABS, rents nationally grew by just 0.1% over the December quarter of 2016 and by only 0.6% over the year – the lowest annual growth rate since December 1994 (see below charts).
