The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) yesterday released visitor arrivals and departures data for the month of September, which registered a small increase in annual immigration.
In the year to September 2016, there were 701,820 permanent and long-term arrivals into Australia – up 4% from September 2015 but well down from the record 792,500 arrivals set in the year to January 2013 – partly offset by 434,340 permanent and long-term departures from Australia (see next chart).
