Labor has told the Coalition to stop procrastinating and bring forward to parliament its planned changes to superannuation. From News.com.au:
“We’ve got a treasurer racing around trying to make compromises … (but) in the interests of good superannuation reform the government needs to bring forward the package of legislation and talk to the Labor party about it,” shadow financial services spokeswoman Katy Gallagher told reporters in Canberra on Monday.
Too right. The Coalition went to the Federal Election with a comprehensive package of reforms to superannuation.
Labor and the Greens have since signaled that they would vote in favour of the Coalition’s superannuation package in the Senate, thereby all but guaranteeing the Bill’s successful implementation.
Therefore, the only thing standing in the way of successful reform is the Coalition itself, which has ceded control to the loony right who wants the superannuation package significantly diluted so that their wealthy constituents can continue paying little to no tax.
If Malcolm Turnbull cannot even succeed in getting the superannuation package through the party room, then he has little authority and does not deserve to be Prime Minister.
