Dwelling approvals fell sharply in June

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has released dwelling approvals data for the month of June. At the national level, the number of dwelling approvals fell by a seasonally adjusted 2.9% to 18,693. The overall fall was broad-based with the volatile unit and apartment segment falling by 2.4% and the more stable house approvals segment falling by 2.3%.

In the year to June 2016, dwelling approvals fell by a seasonally-adjusted 5.9%, with both house approvals (-5.9%) and unit approvals (-4.8%) falling:
