The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has released dwelling approvals data for the month of February. At the national level, the number of dwelling approvals rose by a seasonally adjusted 3.1% to 18,252. The overall rise was driven by the volatile unit and apartment segment, which jumped by 7.6%, more than offsetting a 1.2% fall in house approvals.
In the year to February 2016, dwelling approvals fell by a seasonally-adjusted 9.0%, driven mostly by falling unit approvals (-13.1%), although detached houses (-5.1%) also fell:
