The Australian Bureau of Statistics yesterday released its overseas short-term arrivals and departures figures for January, which continued to show a trend rise in the number of inbound tourists, especially from China.
The number of short-term visitor arrivals rose 0.9% in January in trend terms, whereas short-term resident departures rose by 0.7% over the month. The ratio of annual arrivals to departures also rose to 79.1%, which was the highest level since April 2011 (see next chart).
