The joint Fairfax-Four Corners investigation into 7 Eleven’s ruthless exploitation of foreign student workers seems to have opened up a can of worms.

Following revelations that around two-thirds of 7-Eleven stores across Australia had dramatically underpaid its workers (known as the “half pay scam”), and other student workers have been forced to make cash payments back to franchisees or risk deportation, a survey by Dr Stephen Clibborn, Associate Lecturer from The University of Sydney, has revealed that underpayment of foreign students is widespread across Australian businesses.
