Click to view a PowerPoint presentation entitled Headwinds for the Australian Economy and Financial System that I presented yesterday to the Mortgage Risk Managers Round Table in Melbourne.

The audience comprised mortgage risk managers from 14 lenders including all of the majors.

The presentation provides an overview of the headwinds facing the Australian economy as the terms-of-trade (income) shock unfolds, along with the employment shock coming our way over 2016 and 2017 as the once-in-a-century mining investment boom unwinds, the car industry closes, and the dwelling construction boom turns ex-growth.

It also provides an examination of Australia’s housing bubble, with a particular focus on Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.

Only two of the audience members had read MB, which meant that many were in for a shock as I dished-out some unpleasant truths about Australia’s economy, housing market, and financial system.

Enjoy!
