Audit Commissioner calls end to Howard’s CGT rort

Tony Shepherd, head of the Abbott Government’s Commission of Audit, has today called for the capital gains tax (CGT) discount, implemented by the Howard Government in 1999, to be unwound. From The AFR:

“I’m personally in favour of bringing the CGT rate up to the income tax rate,” he told a Committee for Economic Development of Australia conference in Canberra on Monday.
