New car sales dip in April
The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) today released new motor vehicle sales for the month of April, which registered a 1.5% seasonally adjusted fall in the number of sales, but a 2.8% increase over the year (see next table).

Sales in April rose in three jurisdictions and fell in five.
As shown in the below chart, the trend in overall new car sales is still rising, with sales approaching the record 96,324 trend sales reached in November 2012. Sales of Sports Utility Vehicles (4WDs) continue to dominate, offset by weakness in Passenger Motor Vehicles (PMVs) sales:

Looking at the mainland states, you can see the trend in new motor vehicle sales is up in New South Wales and Victoria, has rebounded in Queensland, is down in Western Australia, and is flat in South Australia (see next chart).
