If you get a spare 45 minutes today, and haven’t already done so, I recommend that you watch ABC’s Four Corner’s report on Jobs Services Australia (JSA): the Australian Government’s employment services system which spawned following the privatisation of the Commonwealth Employment Service (CES) in 1998.
Since 1998, when the privatised system came into play, around $18 billion of taxpayer’s money has been paid out to providers – both for-profit and non-profit organisations – who are contracted by JSA to find the unemployed jobs. From the Four Corner’s report:
