Yesterday, more details about the Coalition’s “families package” came to light, with Prime Minister Tony Abbott confirming that he would further pare back his signature paid parental leave (PPL) scheme and divert the savings to childcare.
While there would be no formal announcement until the new year, according to various Coalition minister leaks over the weekend, PPL is to be more tightly means tested, with the cap on the maximum payout also to be lowered. Savings are also to be re-directed into childcare programs and rebates for home care, including nannies.
