Dwelling construction continues to improve

The ABS has released dwelling construction data for the March quarter, which shows a solid pick-up in actual construction activity.

According to the ABS, the number of dwelling commencements rose by a seasonally-adjusted 8.7% in the March quarter to be up by 22.2% over the year. Detached house commencements rose by 12.8% over the quarter and by 22.6% over the year, whereas unit commencements were up by 4.2% over the quarter and by 27.1% over the year (see next chart).
