The AFR is reporting that Holden workers have walked out at its Melbourne engine plant:
Car unions and Holden have been in the Fair Work Commission this week negotiating over 30 forced redundancies in the engine plant and engineering trades.
A Holden spokesman said the redundancies were needed because a voluntary redundancy program earlier this year failed to achieve the numbers sought by management, despite a lengthy process.
…Industry sources said the workers were concerned because forced redundancy packages were capped at 52 weeks’ service, while voluntary departure packages included three weeks’ pay for every year of service.
