Personal lending jumps, business lending slumps

The Australian Bureau of Statistics has released Lending Finance data for the month of July, which registered a strong seasonally-adjusted rise in personal finance commitments, but big falls in both commercial and lease finance commitments (see next table).

In seasonally adjusted terms, the value of personal finance commitments rose by 7.0% in July and were up 11.1% over the year:

The value of housing finance commitments were flat in July, but were up 14.2% over the year:

By contrast, commercial finance commitments fell by 10.5% in July, but were up 9.0% over the year, although they remain well below pre-GFC highs:

Similarly, the value of lease finance commitments fell by 8.4% over the month and were down by 16.3% over the past year:
