The Queensland Government has released data on housing transfers and mortgage lodgements for the month of June.
According to the Government, the number of housing transfers rose by 8.1% in June, whereas the number of mortgage lodgements increased by 7.5% over the month. On a year-on-year basis, transfers rose by 32.5% in June, whereas mortgage transfers increased by 31.8% (see next chart).
You can see from the next chart that Queensland transfers and mortgage lodgements had been in an up-trend since late-2011. However, they remain depressed overall, still tracking 25% (transfers) and 27% (mortgages) respectively below the 13-year average in the year to June 2013 and at similar levels to the year 2000.
Hence, the housing recovery underway in Queensland is tepid at best.
