Personal loans retraced in May

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has released Lending Finance data for the month of May, which registered solid strong seasonally-adjusted falls in personal and lease finance commitments, but rises in owner-occupied housing and commercial finance commitments (see next table).

In seasonally-adjusted terms, the value of personal finance commitments fell by 3.1% over the month but was up by 7.2% over the year:

The value of lease finance commitments also fell by 4.2% over the month and were down by 16.0% over the past year:

By contrast, commercial finance commitments rose by 3.0% in May and were up 4.8% over the year, but remain well below pre-GFC highs:

Finally, the value of housing finance commitments rose by 2.3% in May and were up 11.3% over the year:
