New car sales flat in February

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has released new motor vehicle sales for the month of February, which registered no material change in sales over the month in seasonally-adjusted terms, but a 9.4% increase over the year:

The Northern Territory managed the largest increase, with sales rising by 10.0% over the month. This was followed by Western Australia, where sales rose by 1.7% in February. By contrast, big falls were recorded in South Australia (-5.3%) and Tasmania (-6.7%) over the month.

Car sales remain in an uptrend, however, driven by strong growth in sales of Sports Utility Vehicles or SUVs (4WDs) and ‘other’ vehicles:
