NDIS fantasy powers Australia’s economic future

Contained within the 352 pages of the latest ‘Intergenerational Report’ (IGR) from the Albanese government is a series of forecasts on how Treasury and the Albanese government believe the next 40 years will play out.

More than a few are overly optimistic, but few are as poorly grounded in reality as the cost projections for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) over the next four decades.

Under the IGR assumptions, the cost of the NDIS is expected to fall from the equivalent of 1.7% of GDP now to 1.5% of GDP in 2030-31.
