With the release of the latest U.S. employment figures last week, a still relatively robust American labour market in aggregate was revealed.

In the minutes and hours that followed, analysts began to put together the pieces as to why it had remained so strong: non-market job creation.

For those perhaps not familiar with the term, non-market jobs are those in the public administration and safety, education and healthcare and social assistance sectors.
