Australia’s public service bloated beyond repair

For years, MB has lamented how the public sector’s historical reputation for “frank and fearless advice” has been usurped by propaganda and paid assessments from consultants geared towards a certain political aim.

A report from a Senate Committee last year entitled “APS Inc: undermining public sector capability and performance” supported this view by labeling consultants “rent seekers” and “ticket clippers” and alleging they contributed to the politicisation of the public sector.

PwC faced criticism this year following the revelation that a number of its senior partners exploited confidential Australian government data to assist large multinational corporations in evading tax obligations.
