Dan Andrews told to scrap $200b rail loop to nowhere

The Grattan Institute has joined the Victorian Liberal Party in calling on the Victorian government to pause the $200 billion Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) project, amid a review of federal projects.

Grattan’s transport director Marion Terrill notes there is a lot of uncertainty over the project’s costs, and it is hard to see why it should be immune from being deferred or re-considered.

“It’s time for a rethink because there is such great uncertainty over the costs and it is far from clear why this is a priority when other projects are being mothballed”, Terrill told The AFR.
