Queensland Treasurer Cameron Dick came under fire over last year’s budget when he ‘blindsided’ the coal industry by introducing two new tiers of coal royalties.
This included a top tier of 40% for coal prices above $300-a-tonne.
Queensland Resources Council (QRC) estimates there will be an additional $8 billion in coal royalties in the 2022-23 budget, and has launched an ad campaign against the government.
