The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has released visitor arrivals and departures data for the month of August, which registered a reduction in annual immigration to around a 9-year low.
In the year to August 2016, there were 695,330 permanent and long-term arrivals into Australia – up 2% from August 2015 but well down from the record 792,500 arrivals set in the year to January 2013 – partly offset by 428,910 permanent and long-term departures from Australia (see next chart).
