Australia’s real estate Treasurer, Scott Morrison, gave a speech yesterday to the Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA), entitled “Keeping home ownership within reach”, which failed to offer a comprehensive plan to address Australia’s housing affordability crisis. Below are the key extracts, along with my response:

At the last election our opponents put forward an ill-considered proposal to abolish negative gearing on established housing that offered false hope to those increasingly frustrated in reaching their housing goals.
