Costello rains on Twiggy parade

From Dad’s Army comes Peter Costello:

The former federal treasurer says he is not convinced there’s a case for an inquiry, calls for which follow accusations major miners are deliberately pushing down prices to force out smaller rivals.

“You can always say what’s the harm in any inquiry,” Mr Costello told the Minerals Council of Australia’s Minerals Week event in Canberra.

“But in my view, you’ve got to identify a problem before you have an inquiry.”

Mr Costello said there was no reason to believe companies were failing to sell their product for “the best price imaginable”.

He was a policy disaster but day-to-day a much more steady hand than our Joe.
