National Party of Australia (WA) leader Brendon Grylls, who is also a minister in the Liberal-National party alliance that has held government in WA for eight years, has proposed an increased tax, which will be a key issue in the looming March state election.

Under a five-decade-old state agreement, both Rio and BHP pay a A$0.25 (US$0.18) production rental per tonne of iron ore, which Grylls wants raised to $5/t to boost the state’s economy.
