HIA new home sales downtrend deepens

The latest update for the HIA New Home Sales Report – a survey of Australia’s largest volume builders, provides a weak update from this leading housing indicator at the start of 2016/17, said the Housing Industry Association, the voice of Australia’s residential building industry.

“The short term outlook for healthy levels of new home construction remains intact – calendar year 2016 will be a record year for new dwelling commencements, but the situation could look very different from next year,” commented HIA Chief Economist, Dr Harley Dale.
