CaptureThe table below details the percentage reduction of Australia’s emissions relative to 2005 level emissions, which the Government is choosing to use, as well as relative to 2000 and 1990 level emissions. It then compares this to the emission reduction pledges of other nations and the EU (the EU pledge covers UK and Germany but these countries have elected to make their own national targets). Relative to 2005 levels, only Japan and Norway have made less ambitious pledges. However, Japan would probably point to the fact it has had to deal with the shutdown of its entire nuclear power fleet, while Norway can point to considerable reductions in emissions prior to 2005.
