From Nielsen via the AFR comes news of Tony Abbott’s ongoing poll nightmare:

Mr Hockey has lost a 17-percentage point lead he had over Mr Bowen two months before the budget and the men are now statistically tied at 43 per cent and 42 per cent respectively.

Despite the fulfilment of the government’s biggest election promise, Labor leads the Coalition by 54 per cent to 46 per cent on a two-party-preferred basis.

There was some good news for Mr Abbott in that his approval rating rose 3 points to 38 per cent and his disapproval rating fell 4 points to 56 per cent…he trails Labor leader Bill Shorten in the areas of competence and trust, while the pair are tied on economic policy.

If you’re less popular, competent and trustworthy than Bill Shortstraw then you’re are deep in the brown stuff.
