Albo & Chalmers vs the Reserve Bank – On home grown inflation

When the Reserve Bank announced on Tuesday that it would be raising rates for the third consecutive meeting by 0.25% to 4.35%, Treasurer Jim Chalmers swiftly took to Twitter (now known as X) to make a case that the RBA was “independent” and that the action was driven by the war in the Middle East.

Australians are already paying a hefty price for the war in the Middle East and this decision will make it tougher. It will add to the pressure that families and businesses are under at a time of ongoing global instability.

This is quite a different narrative to when the RBA is cutting rates, where Chalmers claims that is because of the Albanese government.
