India spearheads student visa tsunami

I reported yesterday how international student arrivals are booming, which signals a record rebound in net overseas migration (NOM):

According to Department of Education data, published in The Australian, “overall commencements of international students have jumped by 25 per cent for the year to date in August… primarily by students from India, which increased by more than 40 per cent”.

Commenting on the results, Education Minister Jason Clare told The Australian that there was still “a lot more work to do” to drive international student numbers higher, and that Labor “are rebuilding our international education sector [by] breaking the back of the visa backlog”.
