Pressure builds for ‘warts-and-all’ federal ICAC

In the lead-up to this month’s election, the ‘teal’ independents backed a model for a national integrity commission (NIC) that has been proposed by independent MP Helen Haines, which would “consider any allegations of misuse of public money”, including pork-barreling.

Haines’ proposed model is based on the NSW Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC).

A new report for the NSW ICAC has called for pork-barrelling to be prohibited and for grants instead to be made strictly on merit after assessments against clear criteria:
