ACCI attacks Labor’s token increase in migrant wage floor

The Australian Chamber of Commerce & Industry has expressed concern about Labor’s proposal to increase the minimum annual wage of temporary skilled migrants. The ACCI’s employment director Jenny Lambert warns that applying the increased Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold across the board would increase the shortage of skilled labour in regional and rural areas. She argues that average weekly earnings differs significantly in regional areas compared with the CBDs of major capital cities. From The AFR:

“The average weekly earnings in Launceston, Tasmania, are very different from what’s paid in the Sydney CBD,” she said.
