As neat as a pin and unassuming with it, Rio Tinto’s iron ore boss, charming Andrew Harding, doesn’t really come across as anyone’s idea of a commercial hard arse. But looks, as they say, are deceiving.

As it turns out, Harding is arguably the most Darwinian executive Rio has seen since the dual-listed giant’s founding executive chairman, the inestimable Sir Robert Wilson.
