West Australian business leaders have delivered the state Liberal-National government a blunt message about the unpopularity of premier Colin Barnett that is being interpreted as a demand to dump him.

Perth investment banker and property entrepreneur John Poynton has confirmed he is among a group of WA businesspeople who took the extraordinary step of commissioning a poll of 11 metropolitan seats that links lasting dissatisfaction with Mr Barnett to an electorate wipe-out in March.
