New car sales fall for fourth month

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has released new motor vehicle sales for the month of April, which registered a -1.6% seasonally adjusted fall over the month but a 3.3% increase over the year. It was the fourth consecutive monthly decline in sales.

Sales fell in all states and territories, except for Victoria and South Australia.
Car sales remain in a weakening uptrend, however, driven by strong growth in sales of Sports Utility Vehicles or SUVs (4WDs):

The trend also remains up in all mainland states, although it is clearly weakening:
